Reaching & Educating At-risk Children
In all, REACH India received 24 proposals for Chhattisgarh, 16 for Direct Service Delivery and 8 for Capacity Building. Following the Grant Selection Committee meeting, five projects were recommended for funding – three for Direct Service Delivery and two for Capacity Building.

Profiles of REACH India's Chhattisgarh NGO Grantees:

1. ASHA ASS0CIATION IN SURGUJA FOR HUMAN ADVANCEMENT (AASHA)
[Direct Service grantee]
 Summary: The project aims at enrolling and retaining at-risk children, through bridge programs and balwadis in seven Panchayats of Mainpat districts. AASHA is upscaling their existing educational program to a new geographical area, which has traditionally been hard to access and hence, neglected. The program aims to enroll and retain children between three and 14 years of age by mobilizing and empowering the community. The program also focuses on capacity building of schoolteachers, Anganwadi workers and other educational workers to promote quality and child-centered learning programs.

2.  Digdarshika
[Capacity Building grantee]
  Summary: The project focuses on educational interventions for 3000 children with disabilities by building capacities of four to six smaller NGOs. In the first phase the project will implement and develop a model of intervention for easy replication by the sub-grantees. A special component of the project is the concept of Vishesh Acharyas - a community trained teacher for a group of disabled children. The NGO hopes to create awareness and sensitize the community to the education and life skills needs of children with disabilities. Through the program, Digdarshika seeks to network and advocate with the Chhattisgarh government for recognition and implementation of schemes for children with disabilities.

3.  Lokshakti Samajsevi Sanstha (LSS)

 Summary: The project aims to impact 5000 children through a multi-pronged educational intervention in five blocks of Rajnandgaon. The project focuses on the re-enrollment of dropout and enrolment of children who have never been to school. The program also seeks to improve the quality of education in the formal schools and thus ensure the retention of mainstreamed and at-risk children.

4. Naandi Foundation
[Capacity Building grantee]
 Summary: The program focuses on strengthening of the resource centres (DIET, BRC/CRC) in Kanker, Baster and Dantewada districts and building their capacities in planning, training methodology and institutional development. The program will also build capacities of five NGOs in planning, management and monitoring programs at the grass-root level. It will also enable the five selected NGOs to become local resource agencies, in their specific areas. The project proposes to impact 75,550 children

5. Vanvasi Chetna Ashram

 Summary: The project is serving the tribal children in 22 remote villages in Dantewada block in the Bastar region. The project aims to enroll children between the age groups of 4 to 14 years in primary schools and pre-school centers. The project also focuses on strengthening the capacity of teachers to provide quality education. Additionally, Vanvasi will also run bridge camps for the dropout children and then mainstream them to formal schools.
